I/O error - not install or backup

I just installed Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I'm trying to copy some files from
one drive to another, and I get the 0x8007045D error - could not copy b/c of
an I/O error. I'm copying from an external 250GB to an internal SATA 320GB. I
have system restore turned off on all drives and I have ownership and
permissions for everything. The drive worked fine for XP, so I don't think
it's a physical error. I've switched cables and run scandisk; neither worked.
If anyone knows how to deal with this, I'd be eternally grateful.....I've
looked around online and found similar problems, but the only solutions I've
found are for running backups and don't seem to work for me. Grrrr.
Also, since Vista doesn't like dynamic drives, what is the proper way to
configure them so it will recognize them (without copying eveything onto an
external and then back onto a newly formatted internal, like I had to do)

Vista Ultimate 64-bit OEM
AMD Athlon FX-62
ASUS M2N32 WS Pro MB
4GB Corsair DDR2
1 SATA DVD+-R
1 IDE DVD+-R
320 GB SATA Western Digital HD (C:/)
320 GB SATA Seagate HD (trying to copy to this one)
External 250 GB USB 2.0 HD
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
XFX 7300 GS
- If I left out any info here, let me know and I'll post it...

Hi,

Posting to an old thread and not including the original information is
likely going to garner you few, if any, responses. Create a new post with a
subject line that describes the type of problem you are having. In the
message text include relevant details like error messages, conditions under
which it happens, and how long it's been going on. Details on your system
hardware, configuration, and related software may be helpful as well.

I didn't find this exact issue in other threads. I found that it happened
during backups or installations, but the workarounds for those problems do
not help me. I did mention this, both in the text and in the title. I
mentioned that the other posts weren't quite the same, so telling me to
include that information doesn't mean much, since it doesn't apply. I
included system and hardware information, and since it's happening in Windows
Explorer, software isn't much help either. I'm not sure what the point of
your post was, since you only told me to do what I had already done.
If you don't know a solution, just say so. Posting a reply telling me that
my original message was wrong or inadequate doesn't shift blame to me for
your lack of a fix. It just makes Microsoft look incompetent and irritating.
If you guys come up with an actual fix to this problem, please let me know.
Otherwise, don't bother getting my hopes up posting replies.

While I can appreciate your frustration at not getting an instant answer to
your question, I think you have to understand that this is an open group
with fast flowing threads and if you do not leave some original part of
your problem in the thread, people who are perhaps in different time zone
may not be in a position to help you when they catch up next time online. I
for instance do not have a real clue from the above, what you need to know.

I/O error -not install or backup

means little?

I have been incurring this same proble, and can add a little more detail,

the exact error I get, is : I/O error 0x8007045d , It appears when I have
been either trying to access my DVD writer to install a program, or copy
files, from it to the hard drive. As well i had a HP DVD740i external dvd
writer that misteriousl;y stopped being reconginzed by Vista. the programs
stop installing and this error is displayed. (i have already brought back the
offending software for replacemenet.so it's not a "disk issue".

I', running Duo Core 2.1, Vista Home Premium, 3 GB of Ram, ATI Radeon PRo
256 Mb.

Vista is telling me that I have the latest drivers, but, I do not have
faith in what Vista is telling me.

So My question is : what is that error?, I cannot find it in the windows
database, and two is the sudden non recoginition of my external dvd writer
connected with the error from the internal dvd writer?
