I'm having problems with updates and have posted previously re cannot install
any updates. However, having a mirror copy of my installation (57 days old)
I've booted with this and managed to download and install the Windows
updates. My problem lies with the failure to install the Office updates
(KB923272 and 924424). personally I'm not surprised as I don't have Office
2003. I do however have Office 2002 (XP). What's happened ???

OK, which thread should I respond to ... the one where no updates would
install or the one where they did install except for the Office
updates ?

KB923272 *is* for Office 2002:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms06-062.mspx
Use this link to obtain the update for Office 2002 SP3:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...5-4D1C4730F5C8
Save it, close IE, install it.

KB924424 is for the installed XML Parser.
Download the update from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...9-9895f2b9a6ed
Save it, close IE, then install it.

MowGreen,

This reply will conclude both problems with Office updates and not being
able to install any updates..............

Firstly Office Updates. Bit of a fib on my part to start with. Whilst I
don't have Office 2003 installed, I do have Visio 2003. This is what the
updates no doubt were referring to. I hadn't used for sometime and
completely forgot it was installed.

I tried to install from download site and it was interesting to note that it
failed due to drive (notification) error. This perplexed me until I
remembered that I'd swapped drives (have all drives caddied). I only
rebooted with master but had left secondary out. Rebooted with both
installed and Office updates worked !?! Don't understand what happened
but.....

Finally couldn't install ANY updates. This overcome by swapping to a
mirrored drive. No doubt could of used system restore (?) but decided a
mirrored image was method to use. There han't been any major changes in the
meantime. Booting from this drive enabled Windows update to be downloaded
and installed (this was when office updates problem, resolved as above) was
noticed.

Something had obviously been corrupted in my PC, and though I'd followed
your suggestions and others, I was no nearer resolving.

Happy to say PC now OK and re-mirrored drive after updating.

Thanks for your feedback..

I am having an issue installing the following two updates 924424,923272. I am
using the latest version of ITMU with SMS 2003 to push out the updates. When
I check the patchinstall log I am receiving the following error message

"Win32 exit code description = The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the
Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing,
or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify
that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer an
d that you have the correct upgrade patch."

One thing all of the machines where it fails at have in common is Visio
2003. I tried running the following patch files manually and the Visio 2003
Update/Repair/Uninstall window opens up.
PVMSO.msp
PVMSXM5.msp

Again, this happens on computers that have Office 2003 SP2 and Visio 2003.

Nice work.

Were the installation files present on the secondary drive ? Office
"likes" to see the original install files or any subsequent update to
installed Office products will fail.

It would be good to monitor changes made to the drive to find out what's
causing this installation issue. Good thing you have the mirrored drive
to fall back to.

MowGreen,

I have to assume the installation files are present on secondary. I try to
mirror once a month by deleting partition and then copying afresh - I use
Acronis Disc Director. Viso was installed many moons ago so I see no reason
why it shouldn't have installed even with secondary drive "out of service"
The install was looking toward drive F which bemuses me. C is master boot.
D is all my downloads both partitions on HDD1. Thus the secondary, HDD2.
would have F as copy of D i.e my downloads. I would of thought the Viso
downloads would have been on E and it wouldn't have mattered which HDD was
installed where
