Hello, I am notified of Microsoft Updates regularly and d/l them and install
except this time I keep getting an update for the cumulative security update
for OE 6 Service Pack 1 (KB837009) and I keep downloading it and it installs
on its own then the next day it's telling me that that same KB is an update!!
I have gone into my computer and found where it d/l'd but when I click on it
, it tells me I have to d/l OE 6 service pack first??
I have windows98
Pentium III
128MB Ram
Norton AV 2004
and I always shut down my firewall before I install anything--also On the
Microsoft Update site where you can view the d/l history it does register me
as d/l this service pack several times. Can someone help me please??

Well, Did you install the Service pack 1? What you are trying to load is an
Update to that service pack

This IS service pack one. I have only d/l any programs that have come up in
my microsoft critical updates. Therefore I have everything that I should
have, except this, and this was a critical update suggested by Microsoft
whom of which I would assume told me to d/l this service pack because I
needed it. I cannot find any info on this and there is another post previous
to mine with the same problem. I see that you have looked at that one also
and I have yet to find any other program that I "should have" d/l previously.
To me this looks like "service pack 1" is the first pack. And usually
Windows updater doesn't tell you to d/l a critical update unless your pc
needs it. Perhaps I have had something adjust my Outlook Express settings
and it is not set properly?

Did you by any chance install updates from the Security Updates CD?

If so, you will probably find that you already have installed KB823353
which apparently supersedes KB837009 in spite of the lower number.
(e.g., bulletin MS04-018 came out after MS04-013, etc.)

You may also discover that you have installed KB887797 which
updates KB823353 and thus gives you modules which supersede
them both.

I'm not familiar with your UI so I don't know how to specify with it
to ignore an update but I think that that is what you should do
unless you want to uninstall the other two just so you can install
the one you are having trouble with and then hope that WU reoffers
you the other two (or get them again manually), etc.

Good luck
