I'm reposting a message from "Lowery" because, after 99% of the
suggestions on this board (most good) I found that this resolved the
issue.
I'm assuming that most here use some kind of registry clean up tool.
It wouldn't hurt to check out the below process. It worked for me.

I did EXACTLY as you wrote; d/loaded the KB's; edited my registry
(very carefully after doing a backup) and it WORKED!
FYI, I use Registry 1st Aid an a regular basis.
I went into it upon completing the regedit correction and added my
entire E:\ drive (CD-ROM) to the exception list.
Your suggestion/solution solved many questions I've had.
OT: Kodak EasyShare software would occassionaly crash and I had to
reinstall. I didn't know it was looking at my E:\drive.
Same for some other graphics software I use.
Long story short.....I shoulda' read the WARNING!
