Office 2000 installation on Windows Vista

Can I install Office 2000 on my new notebook with Windows Vista?

Thanks in advance.

It should work. However, none of the Automatic updating facilities such
as Microsoft Update or Office Update will process a Office 2000 setup.
You'll need to manually download and apply ( in order ), SR1a, SP2 &
SP3 then the individual updates. The manual downloads are found here:

*The Service Packs are found on pages 2 & 3 of the above link. Start
on page 3 to get Service Release 1a which should be installed first.

Strange, I just updated a computer with Office 2000 using Office Update.
I wonder if it's because I'm running it on XP and not Vista.

So if you have Vista and Office 2000, you can forget updates for Office
2000?

And I thought it was Microsoft Update, not Windows Updates, that updates
both Office and Windows ...

Thats because Office 2000 life cycle ended a few years ago.

What's "because"?

I just went to Office Update and it had no problem updating my Office
2000 installation so you are obviously ill informed.

There is no such thing as Office Update in Windows Vista, there is only the
Windows Update explorer shell. The old Windows Update that existed from
Windows 98 to XP is not available, it is, but not through the old method
where you click a link and it opens Windows Update in the browser.

You can of course receive updates for Office updates by going to
http://officeupdate.microsoft.com

And that's exactly where I went. There's no such thing as Office Update
for Office 2000 or XP either.

So, you really don't have a point but nice try at dancing around it.

Microsoft Update does update Microsoft Office and Windows, but not
older versions such as Office 2000:
