Why is the Office 2003 Service Pack 2 installation failing? I try to use all
the help options only to receive no answers. If this is a critical update,
why is it so difficult to install? And just in case a question about having
a legitimate Office product comes up, my software is legitimate and legal.
Please help me resolve this issue. And what is error code: 0x530?

Ditto - this has been going on for weeks now. Will somebody from Microsoft
at least let us know whether they are trying to correct this problem or
include some assistance notes with the update that enable us to get round
this problem.

I experienced same problem. After nine failed attempts with the 0x530 error
message I did an Office 2003 repair operation using the Office 2003 CD and
then crossed my fingers while letting Auto Update install SP2. Eureka!
Success! I sent a report to MS prior to this and got no explanation of the
error code.

I have also achieved success now !!

I uninstalled Norton Internet Security completely, tried the update again -
failure. I then used the Micrsoft Office updater which downloaded the update
again (even though the Windows updater could install without downloading
again !!??) but this was also a failure. I then downloaded the 'fullfile'
which was huge - 90-odd MB !! .... but it worked !! I then had to reinstall
Norton etc...

What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon - thank God I have broadband
huh?

Come on Microsoft - it just isn't good enough is it.....

My first attempts at install Office 2003 Service Pack 2 were through the
Microsoft Auto update process. All my updates basically follow the
autoupdate process. I click the yellow shield whenever I see it. Right the
yellow shield doesn't even show up for Office 2003 Service Pack 2 anymore.
When I view the update history through Microsoft Update. It still shows the
same error. The installation should work whether I install it directly from
Microsoft Update or from the Autoupdate feature. My concern and/or question
still has not been answered. Please explain why this update doesn't work?
Or, what is a reasonable work around? What is error code 0x530?

Thanks, but I have tried the Office 2003 repair process twice on each of two
computers with the same SP2 installation failure, with no success on either
computer. I think the MS support person I called said that they would mail
me a CD with SP2 (I'm not sure because the support person's English was poor,
compounded by the poor line quality I usually experience when calling MS
about anything.) I never received the CD.
