I spent over three hours with dialup connection to Windows Update downloads
and after installing some updates to my XP SP2 there was a 'fail to install'
message. I cannot get any other than "not known" to error 0x8024002c on all
MS searches.

Any suggestions please. The software was installed by Dell prior to
purchase and they only assist with hardware ! I have the installation disks.

Thanks.

0x8024002c - (2145124308)
A binary-delta patch failed because the source was required

Options:-
1. Either download the full update from the Update site, or
2. Force the re-detection of the update (noting that the full update will download this time).
To force a re detection of the update click Start, select Run and type:
WUAUCLT.EXE /DETECTNOW

Thank you very much for your prompt help. I shall try the "detect" and come
back. I tried to obtain CDs for the updates some of which are very large
without success in UK. Without broadband at my location, life is expensive !!

Eventually they are released but not for SP 2 for Office 2003 yet. Soon I believe.
Order Office Service Packs on CD-ROM

Have you got a friend that can download them for you and burn them to CD?

Many thanks for your responses. l'll owe you a a glass, or two if you're
over in Uk some time.

Microsoft told me I could not download to another computer, only from mine
!!! Otherwise I should use my daughter's who uses broadband and it would be
seconds. Are there any possible problems downloading to her machine please?
Regards, Brett.

Not a problem if you're downloading the full updates, you can't download from the automatic update
site to another computer.
"Automatic Updates Downloads Cannot Be Installed on Other Computers"

The links for Windows XP for full downloads (below) - once you know what you want, scan your
computer, make a list and then download what you need.
Do the same for office updates - make sure you download the full files.
http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/of...e/default.aspx

You can download them from the Catalog and save to be installed later.
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp

Click Add button for each update you want to download. Once you have what you want, Click the “Go To
Download Basket” link. Type in or browse to the location where you want the updates saved to and
then Click the “Download Now” button.
Once downloaded, you can then burn them to CD.

This also has solved my problem I believe. I'll let the automatic update do
its thing when I shut down. Thank you!
