For weeks I have been trying to get rid of this install failure message,
error code 0x537. Can't seem to find the solution...

This is Office 2003 on XP Media Center v2002 SP2.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Uwe

Have your Office 2003 media (CD) in the system when you try to install?
Tried getting the stand-alone installer?

Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Released way back on 3/30/2004. What I suggest is that you download from
the above link the "OfficeXpSp3-kb832671-fullfile-enu.exe" file and save it
to your desktop. (57.5MB - not 16MB!) Try running it.

(It states, on that page, "OfficeXpSp3-kb832671-fullfile-enu.exe: Download
this file if you do not have access to your installation source...")

Well thanks Shenan,

after d/l'ing the 54MB worth of OfficeXP sp file, it told me -of course-
that I have Office 2003 installed, not XP. In other words, does anyone have a
fix for my update misery? But please read my post before responding.

Thanks.

I read it - I pasted the wrong link. I even referred to it (Office 2003) in
my original response initially.

My apologies - but you did not have to respond in an ingratiated manner and
you could have, I assume, looked up the correct link and/or read the text
above and after the incorrect link before downloading to have seen I had
accidentally pasted the wrong reference and put an Office XP link instead?

Here is the correct link (found by visiting http://office.microsoft.com/ and
going through the downloads for Office 2003.):

Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

It will be available on CD soon, I am sure...
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/do...383631033.aspx

If you still have trouble installing it, you may wish to review:

You cannot install an Office 2003 service pack

You also may wish to look at:

Hope you get it sorted out.

X-post to Office Update newsgroup

Insert your Office 2003 CD into the CD drive before attempting to install
Office 2003 Service Pack 3.

Alright Shenan, I know you are just trying to help, I appreciate it. I just
don't have enough of a span for this, since I burned a few hours on this
already. And yes, I had downloaded the full 116MB worth of Office 2003 SP3
patch before, in fact a few times, to make sure I had a good download. I have
also spent time on the ref kb article, twiddling registry settings etc. It
just doesn't want to install. no matter what I try. Also looks like I am the
only one on this globe with that specific error code, can't find any
references to this one anywhere.

Thanks,

Uwe

I finally bit the dust and uninstalled Office 2003, rebooted, and reinstalled
the initial (sp-free) version, effectively wiping out SP2.

Then I tried to run SP3 off that 117MB (sorry, not 116 :-) ) download, and
voila, it comes up with an error 1335 (PCW_CAB_H15000_1 is corrupt or cannot
be used). Interestingly enough 1335 equals 0x537, so the originally attempted
upgrade through Windows Update knew all along that this specific file has a
problem, except that Windows Update elected to leave me in the dark about
this.

Anyway, now I am scanning my hard disk for this PCW_... file and it can not
be found anywhere, so I don't know if it's SP3 exe payload or it's supposed
to be in a cab file on the install CD (of which I have tried two different
media). Does anyone have a clue what this PCW_... file is and where it's
coming from?

Thanks again!

Uwe

I had this exact same problem. Believe it or not, you can install Office
2003 SP3 by installing Office 2003 SP2 first! My specific errors were prior
to the installation of SP2 were:

PCW_CAB_H15000_1 is corrupt or cannot be used
error 1335

I think my install log had a 1603 error as well. Sorry I didn't take notes.
BUT I suggest you do this before any of the more involved and complicated
methods of troubleshooting. I f I had done this at first, I would have saved
a good 9 hours of my life that I am not getting back!

Do you have any idea what the word you used -- "ingratiated" -- means?
Apparently not. You used it exactly the opposite of the way I think you
wanted to. Plase check "ww.dictionary.com" before using words of more than
one syllable.

"Sarcasm", feel free to take your own advice and look that one up.
