I've got a wierd question.
I d/loaded update and installed (MS Office 2003) SP2 without a hitch
about a week ago.

This morning I spotted the gold shield in my tray notifying me of an
update.
(I'm off auto install).
It notifys me that SP2 is ready to be installed.
I figured it was in addition (or further update) to the SP2, I
already installed successfully.
No. This is the same SP2 and upon trying to "install" it I get
"install unsucessful".
Is this an MS glitch, some dopey attempt at a hack or what?
Should I just ignore it?

Will accept any and all advice.

Thanks,

I know this wont help you much but the same thing happends to me too, i
found your message looking around trying to get help for my dilemma. My
case is a little different though.
I noticed the (installing) problem a couple of weeks ago, but i kinda
just ignored it B/C i dont have XP Pro i have XP Home edition
therefore- no Disks it also tells me to insert "Microsoft Office XP
Professional with Frontpage" disk and gives me the error of no disk
being found...
So whatever...
Now I have a larger Problem. Whenever I save anything and then go back
to open it/read it, it says it needs to install a converter
??I am so lost
it tells me " Error 1706" "cannot find the required files" and then it
discontinues the installation.
then when i look at the files they have the "~" infront of them
Ex. 1) ~$alth Insurance Info
or
Ex. 2) ~WRL0004

I don't know what to do for you, but if i get something useful I'll let
you know. Good luck
ps if anyone could help it would be grateful
-thanks in advance-

Ive got exactly the same problem. Ever since i tried to install the update,
i now cannot open Excel files without it prompting me to insert the original
CD to install excel. Im not happy, especially since i no longer have the
CD...

When i try to update to the new service pack, it appears to install
correctly (the installation bar goes pretty much right upto 100%) and then
it says "installation successful".

This needs sorting asap please
