I was installing office 2003 update kb907417 and office sp3 and received the
0x529 during the install of those. I have rebooted and still get the same
problem. Other windows updates installed yesterday work fine.

Tried using the ms update tech support tool that collects data about the
machine and sends it but that fails on both my machines so I am posting to
the newsgroup hoping to get some help.

<cmd_output OS="XPsp2">
E:\>set /a c = 0x529

E:\>net helpmsg %c%

</cmd_output>

Try using a different account? E.g. the same one that originally installed your Office product?

Oh. It may only be a permissions thing. You could try tracing with ProcMon
to check that possibility.

If you install the update manually and still get the same symptom
you will be completely independent of the distribution method (e.g. WU)
and therefore likely to get more informed comment from a newsgroup
which specializes in the product being updated.

Cross-posting to an Office NG for convenience.

Good luck
