Final posting: When I examined the Update history, (Installed Updates), I
noticed that the Office Updates had already been installed on 7/16, and are
still there. It looks like Windows Update tried to reinstall them on 8/10,
and that may have caused the problems - just in case anyone else encounters
this. At any rate, the Backup and Restore Center seems to be a useful
feature.
