Office 2K Premium on Vista fully compatable with Office 2K on WinX

Hi all,

I have a Toshiba Notebook, about 4-5 years old:
System Model Satellite 1905
System Type X86-based PC
Processor x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 7 GenuineIntel ~2392 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date TOSHIBA V1.80, 11/07/2002
15.4" screen
HDD = 40GB, RAM = 512MB
3.5" floppy drive
CD-RW/DVD-ROM, that is not working all the time - think the lenses got
scratched?!
It has only 2-USB 1.x ports, Firewire port, PCM-CIA slot, parallel & serial
ports.
It is running:
Windows XP Home Edition SP2
MS Office 2000 Premium with MS Word, Access, FrontPage, etc.

In my work I have to use, create, modify, etc. Access DB files, MS Word 2000
Docs., Excel Spreadsheets on a network or as standalone files on my notebook.

I went to look at a new Toshiba notebook last week, running Vista Premium
Home Edition, and was told that Vista (Home Premium), will not run MS Office
2000!!

My questions:

Do I have to buy a new Vista Notebook ($850+), and then fork over another
$300+ for MS Office 2007 (with Access), and it is only the upgrade NOT the
full edition?

Most of the new Notebooks now come with MS Works 8.x -- is Office 2007 able
to upgrade THAT?

But will the files be accessible and modifiable in MS Office 2000 as that
is what the other PC's in the company use??

The companies main Database (and DOC files), are created and maintained
using MS Office 2000, and if they
are NOT/will NOT be able to interact with files created in MS Office 2007,
then I HAVE to go back to XP and Office 2000!?

Or is my only other option to buy a Vista OS (loaded) Notebook, buy a new
copy of Windows XP (Home or Pro), and replace the Vista OS on the 'new'
Notebook with XP so I can use Office 2000?

I have read all of the comments & posts on this board and am more confused
than before. I would just like a more definitive answer if MS Ofc 2000
Premium (Word, Access DB, Excel spreadsheets, Frontpage, PowerPoint, etc.)
will run fine on a 'new' Toshiba Notebook with Vista Home Premium installed??

I guess you didn't understand my OP!
I wanted to know if I install MS Office 2000 on a Vista Premium Notebook,
will all the Word 2000 docs, Excel 2000 spreadsheets, Access 2000 DataBase
files, etc., be completely usable on a WinXP PC also using MS Office 2000??

Yes, it has nothing to do with what version of Windows you are running.

No. Others are already reporting that Office XP and Office 2002 are not
working okay in Vista, so I doubt that Office 2000 will work okay. Make
sure you backup your system before you try installing it if you do.

I have installed Office XP and Office 2003 on different
Vista machines. No problems from either.

I had Office 2003 installed on this computer, got my
free copy of Office 2007 Pro (Power Together) and
moved Office 2003 Pro to another computer.

I don't use the machine with Office XP on it
often, but it seems to run well. I also installed
the compatibility pack for older versions of office.

Steve, the one aspect of Office that seems to have problems is Outlook
-- I am not sure if that is a function of the data transfer -- that is,
perhaps with a new install a new account can be set up properly.

I'll recheck using an Office 2000 install -- but not with Outlook 2000.
