Office document file ICONS missing

All of a sudden all my Office (and a few others like Acrobat) file icons are
missing. For example, in a Microsoft AWord Document, the icon displays as
the "default" icon, as if it has no association, yet when I double click on
it, it opens in Word with no problems. Suggestions?

If you have your Microsoft Office installation, simply re-run setup and do a
repair installation.

I have read people trying this but it has never worked. This is why I'm
reluctant to try it..

Well, you won't know unless you try, and whats the least that could happen?

Sorry for the late reply, I was searching for this problem and could not
find the answer anywhere. But since I figured it out I figured I may as
well post it.

I had the same problem, it had nothing to do with a bad install, Office
just did not give the old extensions the icon (such as .doc and .xls)

::What you do this fix it is this:::
:: ::

- ::Open Windows Explorer::
- ::Go to Tools > Folder Options and click the File Types tab::
- ::Scroll down the DOCX, select it and click on “Advanced”::
- ::Click on “Change Icon”::
- ::Copy the location besides the browse button into your clip
board.::
- ::Click cancel, and click cancel again::
- ::Scroll back up to DOC and click on “Advanced”::
- ::Click on “Change Icon”::
- ::Paste from your clipboard into this location and click OK::
- ::Click OK again and again.::
::That should be it!::

Vista does not use the "file Type" option in the Folder Options.
