When trying to install SP1 for office 2007 I invariably get failed
installation and error code 0x537.
Any help at all will be highly appreciated.

Try a web search? But first convert your hex code to decimal
E.g. using calc.exe (or otherwise) we find it's decimal representation
is 1335

Evidently there should be more detail associated with your code
when it is shown with its decimal representation

<title>Error message during Office 2000 or Office XP installation:
&quot;Error 1335 - Cannot Copy Cab File Office1.cab&quot;</title>
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314810

BTW you may get more knowledgeable for problems with installation
of Office updates in an Office NG. Cross-posting for convenience.

If using Office 2007 Enterprise purchased through your Company with the Home Program then I suggest that you get in touch with the IT person responsible at the Company. They hold the volume license for your Office version and as so are the ones that can help you out with the Enterprise version of Office
