Office Pro 2007 and latest patches
XP Pro SP3
IE8
Windows Live Mail (Set as default email client)

Open Excel
Open an Existing spread sheet
File (Office Orb)->Send->E-Mail

Error Message
"General mail failure. Quit Microsoft Office Excel, restart the mail system,
and try again."

I have tried to repair Office
Verified WLM is the default email client though IE tools-Options
Run FixMapi.exe (this sometimes works when Excel is open, but will fail the
next you start Excel to send again)

Any thoughts?

I should add that I can right click on a file in explore and select Send
To->Mail Recipiant and it works just fine. Also in IE I can do a send mail
action too.

Its only in the Office products that its failing.

My guess would be that the Office suite is expecting a full MAPI client,
while WLMail is just a simple MAPI client. You would probably need MS
Outlook in order to send from within the Office suite.

That procedure also failed for me when I tried it with the Office 2010 beta.
As others have stated, that procedure likely requires a full MAPI client,
which Windows Live Mail is not. As a test, set Outlook as your default
mail client, then try that procedure again.

Same problem as listed:

Platform: windows 7 home premium (32)
Office 2007 (home; w/o outlook)
Windows live mail

I cannot send word as an email (cannot call the MAPI?)

If you've ensured WLM and IE are set as the defaults (also set in Tools -
Default Programs - Set Program access and computer defaults - "Custom" down
arrow on right), then make sure WLM itself is not open when you're in Office
and click on the Mail option. Office will open it for you.

You've done this, have you? AFAIK nothing will work because WLM is not
fully-MAPI compliant.

Actually, yes, I did have to do this. Even though I had the Send Page and
Send Links enabled (not "grayed out" as users are complaining about), when I
went to use the feature, I got the error. I closed the email program, tried
the feature again, and it opened the compose window with all info and my
link, and "Send" was successful (prompted to login). It's not done it since
though - now Sends even with email currently open.

I just tested again, and yes, with WLM closed, I can click either of those
features and it calls up WLM. Perhaps it appears "to do nothing" because
there is a login prompt that is hidden underneath the IE page. When you
login, WLM opens and functions normally. Since I no longer get that error
(and only got it the one time that I can recall - not a feature I use
regularly) I can not re-test the error condition.
