There is Office XP (AKA Office 2002), then there's Windows XP Home and Pro
editions, Bob. You may be confusing the two.

Do you have Office installed? Is it Office XP? Does Windows, Microsoft or
Office Update offer you an Office update?

Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) will offer some updates
for MS Office, yes.

Microsoft Update (http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/) will offer
all updates offered by Office Updates
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/of...e/default.aspx) as well as
those offered by Windows Update.

Generally, yes, you should install all updates for Office. If you don't use
MS Outlook, you can decline updates for Outlook and hide them from being
offered again.

How to configure and use Automatic Updates in Windows XP:

Thanks, I do have it hidden, but today when I opened my I.E. it came on with
searching for updates & came up with the hidden file & I clicked on it to see
what the problem was [came up as an error], it said windows service pack 3
for office & I thought it was for a busines [like Microsoft or a business
that uses a lot of comouters & networks.]

IMHO you should indeed install Office XP Service Pack 3, Bob. In fact, you
should've installed it a long time ago: It was released 30 March-04.

*Office XP* SP2 or *WinXP* SP2? (The former was released 16 Jul-02, the
latter Aug-04, and neither has anything to do with the other.)

Long story short: If Windows/Microsoft/Office Update offers it as a Critical
or Recommended Update, install it (with the possible exception of updates
for Outlook if you don't use Outlook).

OK, thanks & I will come back on here when it is installed. But not going to
do it now because windows update is not telling me now to update it. I do not
want to have another problem where I install a program then my computer not
work then I call MS & they tell me to call DELL who tell me to call MS. I
wish there was a way that all of this could stop, because everytime I spend
hours or days trying to get my system to work & no one is telling me what to
do ecxept 'call ?' I would like to see it where if it is a MS program on a
Dell computer that the 2 busines work together instead of giving me the run
around. It is a waste of time to sit here being told to get this or that
program then my computer go bad & then I get told it is not there problem
[please forgive me, it is hard because if I get my computer messed up & have
to re install from windows I will not be a very happy person] I got SP2 when
it first came out & it damaged my computer so I had to re format all from
scrach. So you can see why I am kind of 'eh' when having to get any service
pack program. I want to know what to do 'if' I install it & get in to
problems like some free phone # or some way that if it gets messed up it will
go back to the old settings so I can still do things. I will stop now [sorry
MS & all]

Bob

Have a blessed day/night
