I recently installed Office 2007. But Microsoft Update still prompts me to
install security updates for Outlook 2003. Why?

I asked this exact same question a week or two ago. It's because you have
Office 2003 Web Components installed on your PC to work with Business
Contact Manager for Outlook 2007. Apparently, Web Components was not
upgraded to a 2007 version along with all the other Office applications so
the 2003 version is still being used with Business Contact Manager. I
assume you are referring to the "Office 2003 Service Pack 3" update which
you received (like I did) via Windows Update? Go ahead and install it . . .
it will only update Office 2003 Web Components and nothing else. Also, see
the post I made to this newsgroup regarding this on 4-16-08.

It's nice to see that there was another person who didn't think that this
made sense.

And you were not the first to ask (either of you) or the first to receive
the answer. ;-)

Yeah, Shenan, but how many people who receive the answer here actually come
back to the newsgroup and help someone else who is having the same problem
(patting myself on the back, if you won't). Most people just vamoose once
they get the answer and you never hear from them again.

And of course, if Microsoft didn't do things that were counter-intuitive to
the average user, like sending you Office 2003 updates through Windows
Update after you've just installed Office 2007, then you wouldn't get people
coming here asking what you think are stupid, repetitive questions. We
users can figure out alot on our own, but we didn't develop the products or
write the code. Just saying that this stuff frustrates us users as much as
it frustrates you support people. ;-)
