I tried installing Office XP Service Pack 3 and was prompted for a CD which I
believe I received when I bought my computer but have not needed it in over
five years and as such it is most likely lost. I tried to install the full
version as a workaround but this did not work – I was still prompted for the
CD. To complicate matters, I now cannot use Excel – when I try, I am
prompted for a CD. Please advise. Rgds, BGG

Hopefully, you have a friend who has the cd you can borrow?

I had this problem too, only is was Front Page (and I don't even know if I
have Front Page installed on my computer). Needless to say, I don't have a
disk, then everything else that needs to be installed will not.

I have had this problem too and even with the disk, I have not been able to
resolve the update issue. I filed a complaint with Microsoft and people
emailed me but have been unable to help as well. I tell you, Linux is
looking better and better every Day. All I want is an automated update or
fix for this problem but the onus is on me to solve their problem. Thanks
alot microsoft for nothing.

Having the same F***ing problem - driving me nuts. My computer is now
basically worthless if I cant get into and out of Excel. I agree that
Microsoft is more and more painful to work with...

I've had the same problem. After DAYS of trying to figure it out, I finally
found this, which worked for me.
