"This action is only valid for products currently installed" error happens
everytime I try to access office 2003 student edition. I found article
number 893048 mentioning a HOTFIX. How do I get this hotfix without using up
one of my free techsupport options? (I havent called techsupport because I
dont want to use up a freebie when its something simple to fix). It was
afterall a microsoft issue with the updates. Thanks

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893048/en-us says that you must contact
support in order to be provided with a link to the hotfix for this problem.

You should not be charged - update support is at no charge.
If you would prefer not to call, and are using Internet Explorer:
Help > Online Support > Microsoft Update (in the left panel) >
Need More Help (contact a Microsoft Support Professional) >
select a country > start email request
