Hello, fellow SP2 downloaders! I have talked to an official Microsoft
representative. If you are having problems using Windows Update to get SP2,
you can use this alternative you may have heard about: Windows XP Service
Pack 2 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en).
I very carefully asked the representative if this is the EXACT same package
as would be received through Windows Update. I was told yes, it was. I hope
this helps any fellow Windows users. John

Did you download it ? And did it work ok for you?? I'm just kind of worried
about it saying for IT profesionals only.

I'm about ready to try it. I'll post the results (hopefully good!) when I'm
done. I had been trying to use the Microsoft representative's Windows Update
ideas, but no luck so far. I'm going to try one of more things first. If that
doesn't work, I'll throw in the towel and go with the IT download. I
understand your concern about the download being labeled for IT folks. Having
worked in the IT field myself, I can understand why those folks would need to
have the download. Trying to install a company's worth of computers using the
Windows Update system could be unmanagable. I'll be back here soon. John

It is *not* the "exact same package as would be received through Windows
Update." It is considerably larger (c. 266MB) than the download you would
get via Automatic Update or Windows Update and includes all files to install
SP2 on WinXP Home, Pro, Tablet PC and MCE.

Gotcha! Thanks for the info. That "exact" description was provided by the
Microsoft Representative. Since the wide release will be available on
Wednesday, I'll probably wait until then to get SP2. It should be interesting
to see what the file size is without all the cross-platform stuff included.
