Offline Files and Vista

Can someone explain the synchronization algorithm with offline files and
Vista. I know that the group policies for synchronize at logon or logoff
etc. are not valid with Vista.

I'm just wondering when synchronization occurs. I'm assuming it will check
immediately when you come back online. What if you're already online and a
change occurs on the server? I've read all of the articles available and
none of them tell me what I need to know. I'm guessing that there's an
algorithm - it would be wonderful to know what it is.
