Hello Customer,
Thank you for posting here. From your post, I understand that the offline files keep in offline status after the users log on the clients. This issue can be caused by that offline cache is corrupted. Firstly I suggest you install following hotfixes: Windows XP uses the Offline Files feature even on a fast connection after you set the "Configure Slow Link Speed" Group Policy http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900387/en-us You may not be able to synchronize offline files as you expect in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903891/en-us NOTE: Although they do not match your problem, they can update related system files. In addition, I suggest you try following steps: Suggestion 1: The problem may occur when the offline files were corrupted. Please try to delete the offline files. ======================== 1. Disabled Offline Files temporarily 1) Open Windows Explorer. 2) Click Tools, select Folder Options. 3) In the Offline Files, uncheck "Enable Offline Files". Suggestion 2: ============ 1) In Folder Options, click the Offline Files tab, and then click Delete Files. The following message appears: The Offline Files cache on the local computer will be re-initialized. Any changes that have not been synchronized with computers on the network will be lost. Any files or folders made available offline will no longer be available offline. A computer restart is required. Do you wish to re-initialize the cache? 2) Click Yes two times to restart the computer. 3) Re-enabled Offline Files. Suggestion 3: Prepare a Clean Boot environment on both the clients and the server. ================= 1. Click Start and Click Run, and in the "Open" line, type in "MSCONFIG" (without the quotation marks) and click OK. 2. Under the Service tab, check "Hide All Microsoft Services", and then click "Disable All" button. In this way, we can disable all the services which belong to third-party programs. 3. Under the Startup tab, click "Disable All" button. 4. Click OK. 5. Choose Yes to restart the computer. 6. Check "Don't show this message or launch the system configuration utility when Windows starts". 7. Please check if the issue persists. NOTE: We can check on Normal Startup in the General tab to roll back to Normal Mode after we get this issue resolved. I hope the above information is helpful to you. However, if the issue persists, please help me gather following information: 1. Does the issue happen for all the user accounts? 2. Does the issue happen on all the client workstations? 3. Could you make offline files connected manually? 4. GP result ======== On the problematic clients, type the following command in command prompt, and then press ENTER: "gpresult -Z > C:\gpresult_z.txt" (without the quotation marks) This creates a list of the implemented policies on the machine in the following text file: C:\gpresult_z.txt. Please send this file to v-. 5. Once the issue happens again, please download the MPS Report tool from the following link and run it on both the problematic computer and the SBS server, then send the generated CAB file to my mailbox v- for further investigation so that we can find what the root cause is: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...5-a579-30b0bd9 15706/MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EX For your information: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...C7C-7CA5-408F- 88B7-F9C79B7306C0&displaylang=en Please try the above steps at your earliest convenience. If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know. I am just being curious here, this is not a question to anyone in specific
just a comment to Microsoft in general. If offline files are know to become corrupted. Why has not a hotfix been released? Why is a feature even used if it is not working. How come such a bug can reach retail release of such an expensive os? How often should I calculate the offline cache being corrupted, once a year or once a month... week? Offline files was described as a feature our company would have great need for and something that has become a vital part of our system. To suddenly be told this feature may or may not work and becomes corrupted now and then greatly diminishes the potential of our computer system. And why is it expected of an administrator to repair broken elements of the OS. Upgrades and updates yes... but when paying so much money for a computer system you would think it would actually work. If I buy a gaming console and something in its programing breaks down, either I return it or a technician comes by and repairs it.
