Hi folks,

Running XP Pro/Office Pro 2002 and have just downloaded MSN Live Messenger.

When I (administrator) go to log on to Windows, the Welcome Screen I now get
shows an 'x unread messages' notice from Messenger ... grrr (don't I have
any privacy?)

Have tried everything to configure Messenger but unable to turn it off ...
can anyone please help.

Thanks in advance ...

Hi Rob,

You are using hotmail. If you use another ISProvider's E-mail Service,
you will not see this.

Also, you probably did the typical installation of Windows Live
Messenger. Do the custom install, so you can pick exactly what you wish to
install. But uninstalling Windows Live Messenger only uninstalls that
program, not the Add-ins. You must manually uninstall the Add-ins through
Add or Remove Programs, in order to remove what Windows Live Messenger
installs through a Typical installation.

Greetings,

There is no way to turn off this "feature" besides turning off this feature in Windows
entirely.

To do so, download the TweakUI powertoy:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p.../powertoys.asp (see on the right).

After you have TweakUI installed, click Start, All Programs, Powertoys for Windows XP, and
choose TweakUI for Windows XP. In the TweakUI window, on the left, click the '+' next to
Logon, and choose Unread Mail. Uncheck 'Show unread mail on Welcome screen' and click OK.
