Here is the first post I did on the file corruption problem, before I
figured out that Windows Update 5 seemed to be the root of the issue. In
case anyone wants to compare symptoms with mine (one thing I don't think I
put in there was that I also got a number of failed updates in WU, such as
WM10, SP1, and various hotfixes):
