this animation unpeals the old GUI to show the NEW.... as if it should
impress us...

LOL ugly as hell, worse functionality in many aspects. MS sure made a vista
out of this one!

its misleading too.. if you see carefully.. 7.5 has the windows title bar on
though it could
have been hidden, but on 8.0 they have it hidden so it will look better...
also
that search contact thing on 8 pushes all the contacts lower (lower than 7.5
WITH the titlebar!).

The problem is that you cant get rid of this bar using a-patch
or mess patch because if you do, you wont be able to switch the views of the
contacts.
Shoudnt this option be available in the menus?

And notice what they removed huh? In 7.5 the contact list with small icons
can have
the avatar, but in 8.0 you have to see the contacts huge to see the avatar
in the contact list.
What kind of genius thought about taking this feature off?

Hi,

To kill the search bar? IM is all about pushing your own services, initally it was mail, now
it's expanded to search. Consider it part of the ad.

I think it was decided that it was pointless since they were so small...

I agree. I actually disliked this feature cos it didn't really fit in with
the rest of the look of MSN Messenger 7.5. You had a tiny, hard-to-see icon
which didn't convey much at all.

you could turn it off....

no one forced you to have it.. but lots of people are wondering why they
removed it because they liked it. (this actually started because YAHOO
messenger had it first.. and msn always
copies its competitors, at least it tries to, because ICQ 200x still has
more features than msn has, and some of them are advanced).

I suppose there wasn't enough of a stink during the beta phase that they
haven't put it back in. I felt it helped differentiate the contacts
better to allow the use of the mini avatar. Now you glance at the list
and everyone looks the same.
I agree that some avatars don't look good so small though, but there
should be an option to allow them if you wish.

yes I agree, although you cannot make out the exact image, the eye and brain
can spot a contact they talk to frequently fast with only a glimpse...

this is what I actually meant.. you explained it better....

It should be listed in the options menu under General. It should say small
or large.
