So, here's the story.

My computer (with Microsoft XP on it) crashed again and instead of throwing
more money at the computer guy on an outdated computer and OS, I decided to
upgrade my computer. (Updating the OS was an accident)

I actually find Vista easier to understand. Being that I know almost nothing
about how these darn things work, I can almost find my way around but, I've
hit a wall that I can't find my way around..or through, whatever.

So, I basically use this thing to attend my online classes and to play
games. I told the sales guy at Best Buy what I wanted and he gave me this
thing with Vista on it.

Here's the problem: I tried to install some software for one of my classes
and it wouldn't work. No error messages, just won't do anything. I can't
figure out if it's something I've done or if it's something I can fix by
simple clicking on a few buttons. I've had this problem a few times with
various games and such but, I really need this software for one of my
classes. If there is anyone out there that can help me, I would REALLY
appreciate your help.

The software is called "Instant Immersion French v2.0", if that helps.

The games part isn't so important but is still a bit annoying. I try to
download a game and sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't. Games
such as those that would be found on Yahoo Games, AOL Games, POGO.com or any
of the many internet sites that offer downloadable games.

I hope this was specific enough for help. I'd also like to say that other
than these minor annoyances, Vista is nice and I like it very much.---I'd
still like some helpful advice on how to fix said minor annoyances if there
are any.

Thanks,
Comp Clueless Kim

I did a search of their web site and they do not list this program as
Windows Vista compatible.

Right click on the setup.exe file, choose Compatibilty and tick the XP
option.
To launch setup rightclick on the setup.exe file and 'Run as Administrator'.

He has got it wrong.
Right-click on the .exe file(the program file), left-click "properties",
THEN "compatibility"

If still no joy, try uninstalling it, then when you re-install it, do
so by right-clicking the file and clicking "Run as administrator".

The background to this is that Vista tries to protect you by limiting
what software can do, and the process of installing software sometimes
requires it to act outside of those limits.

Vista tries to recognise setup programs and help them over the new
hurdle of "admin rights", but sometimes it may not. In that case, the
installation process may not get the rights it needs, and you can help
things along by running the installer "as admin".

For older programs - and as of now, that's most, as most programs
pre-date Vista - this may apply to running the program after it is
installed, and Dennis' advice applies there.
