Once I have added new updated, should I remove the old updates. I just seem
to be getting so overloaded and my system is so very slow anymore. Any
suggestions, can I remove the old updates? Would that help?

No, no, absolutely not.

That's not caused by old updates, it's caused by something else.

Do not remove old updates, if they are there, they are still valid.
But you can safely delete the uninstallation files:

It is unlikely your speed issue is caused by the updates.
Instead if is most likely a malware issue.
Follow the yellow section on this link:

Of course you can delete old files.
You have two tools:
1. WSUSUtil
It's in c:\Program Files\Update Services\Tools
If you type wsusutil in command line you'll see options.
For cleaning database: wsusutil deleteunneededrevisions

WSUSDebugTool
You can download it from microsoft site
Parameters:
OutputCab (Not mandatory)
Tool : Which have some parametres:
ResetAnchors, PurgeUnneededFiles, SetForegroundDownload,
ResetForegroundDownload, GetBitsStatus, GetConfiguration and GetLogs.

To clean database:
WsusDebugTool.exe /Tool:PurgeUnneededFiles

Don't worry if it takes a little bit time. I have executed both commands
this morning and now I have 2GB free more than before.
