Older lady needs your help, pls! Keep getting Error 0x80070715!

Hello!

I am trying to use the Windows Update, but I keep getting the Error #
0x80070715.

I tried installing the download Agent, as was advised to Sebasmirium by
Engel, but I keep getting "Windows update agent installer encountered
unrecoverable error."

I am running Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_grd.070227-2254

I am on Windows XP Home Edition.

HP Pavilion515n

If you could please be kind enough to give very explicit instructions and
information, because as I said, I am a slightly older woman and I am NOT very
computer literate! (smile, wink)

CheerfulTG,

Click on Start > then click on Run > copy and paste the below into the
Open: line

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

Click OK or press Enter

The WindowsUpdate.log will now be open. Scroll all the way down to the
bottom of the log.
Copy and paste the last 60 or so lines into your reply and hopefully,
we'll see what the issue is.

When searching for available updates on the Update site, you receive the 0x8024402C error

A misconfigured Proxy/Firewall can cause this problem. Double-check the Proxy/Firewall

Unfortunately, none of those error messages are the one I am getting
(0x80070715), so being that I know absolutely nothing about computers, I
would prefer to not do anything that does not specifically mention my
problem, lest I just make *more* problems (smile, wink)

I do thank you for caring and for trying to help, but I think I will wait to
see what MowGreen suggests after he/she sees the results of the search he/she

Hello TaurArian!

I wrote a response to you in that last message, but I don't know what
happened to it! Computers! lol

Anyways, I had said that I apologize, because as I said, I am not very
computer literate, so I don't know how to read these things, so you are
probably right.

I also said that I hoped you wouldn't be too offended if I still wait to get
MowGreen's input, just to get a second opinion, because when I started to
read the introduction to the Guide on the page you sent me to, it stated
specifically that anything the Guide would do could not be "UN"done, and that
scared me! So I will just wait to see if MowGreen agrees?
