Older programs will not install?

Hi all,

I have a new Vista Basic 64 machine running on a quad core cpu.
It runs Poser 7 great but when I try to add any/all of my other
programs, it just ignores me. Some programs like an older Bible
program generated an error message that said the program was
16 bit and the install died. So here are my questions:

1. how do I get Vista to run older programs, say 32 bit?
2. could this be a permissions problem?
3. if I switch to XP Pro, will the OS see all 4 cores and use them?

32 Bit applications run fine on Windows Vista x64. 32 Bit applications with
16 bit installers and uninstallers do not work on Windows Vista x64. I
suggest you check the developers website for new releases.

You can install XP on VirtualPC, within Vista, and use your older programs
through that. VirtualPC is free, but I don't think you are allowed to use
it with Vista Basic, but screw it.

Too much OS overhead. If that is my only option with Vista, I will
wipe the machine and install XP from scratch.

You'd be surprised how well it works actually, especially with dual/quad
cores. You just need quite a lot of memory if you are using very large
applications.

When you install an older program, do you run the install as admin? Do you
get an error message about No VDD found?
