The automatic defragger in Vista may be badly implemented. Perhaps MS
did not do a good job of balancing the end result (performance) and the
automatic nature of the defragger; perhaps SP1 will fix some of these
issues.
Whichever way you look at it, automatic is the way to go for the future
- -if- well implemented, since it removes the need for human
intervention and reduces workload.
Rather than manually scheduling, executing and checking the results of
a defrag after the workday or a weekend, let the software (defrag in
this case, but could be anything) run and manage things automatically.
All this is contingent upon the fact that the software works as
advertised and does not crash in the middle of something important lol.
Automatic, self managing software would be good, especially as the
number of installed systems increases.
