Like Dambler I'm in the same boat. Unable to install the new Windows Live
Messenger and unable to re-install my previous Windows Live Messenger 8.5.

I have cleaned out my registry three times - didn't help. I tried
downloading it as a stand alone - didn't work. I've scoured the pages of
Google for many a day and bupkes. I've cleaned out my internet files,
cookies, history and all that jazz and nothing has helped.

I understand the error to be a generic one, one that seems to be exclusively
limited to the joyful Windows Vista. If someone could help by providing a
solution that would be great. Otherwise I'm going to have to say adios to
Microsoft and buy a Mac.

I'm currently using Meebo for my IM conversations. Its not particularly
brilliant but its allowed me to stay connected and chat. Sure I could use
Facebook chat, sure I could use Yahoo but I trust and know Windows Messenger.

Please help Dambler and I find a solution. We can't be the only two souls
in the world with this installation foible.

Cheers.

Hey, had that problem here ... frustrating huh... heheh
Try this
http://blogs.technet.com/fixit4me/ar...x-it-live.aspx
it runs thru the registry permissions and does some other good stuff too.
Maybe it will do you, maybe not.

Or what worked originally for me on vista, but its not perfect ,,,,
make yourself a bat file ...
http://www.brianpeek.com/blog/archiv...try-issue.aspx

in the mean time you might search and find yourself a portable Live
Messenger.
or use this one http://portableapps.com/aMSNPortable

simply, your windows is pirated,,, download a full client )you will see
it because of the wheight of the archive) its normaly 24 mb, dont
download the installer, search in google "messenger 9 beta" that way you
will find a package, not a installer.
i hope i helped you.

further questions contact me at cyranoidy @ gmail.com
