Thanks for the help on the other two questions, now I have one more.
Since installing the service pack for Vista, I now experience lag
when playing Halo. Never had any trouble whatsoever before, now I
can't play it on any network settings, I lowered all the graphics
settings, etc. So what got changed with the service pack?
BTW My ping is like it always is.

Check whether Halo has patches for use with service pack 1.
Also look out for new graphics drivers for your video card via Windows
Update. They would probably be listed as an `optional` update,so be sure to
check the list carefully, even if it says that `Windows is up to date`.

Don't install 3rd party Hardware Drivers(Graphics or whatever) from Windows
Updates, optional or not!

Go your computer Manufacturer's, or Graphics Card's makers website, and
download latest Drivers from there, NOT win update!

I appreciate everybody's help but nothing works. It worked fine on my
old machine which had XP and a lesser graphics card. My drivers are
up to date, I reinstalled it, I have the patch, the drive is
defragged, no virus or weird stuff running in the background,
restarted, went thru the list on ms site, etc. One thing. I
reinstalled it a couple days ago and that seemed to fix the problem,
then today it started acting up again. I went through the steps again
but it is acting up again and is unplayable. So, sometihng was fixed,
apparently, and then got messed up again. I can't imagine what it is.

I did that, nothing works. See my post below for everything I did.
There must be some -thing- new happening that causes the lag. I can't
figure it out.
