Glad you found your answer - hopefully this will help others.
Also help them to possible learn to help themselves...
Search using Google!
http://www.google.com/
(How-to:
http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )
Examples (phrases to use):
Windows XP updates will not install
updates not installing on Windows XP
my updates download but do not install on Windows XP
why won't my updates install on Windows XP
updates fail to install with Windows XP
The answer to that question has been posted many many times over - all one
has to do is search.
Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144
I know many people will come back saying they did not know what to search
for - but the truth is - most of the time when they say that - you can take
wording straight from their posting (where they ask about the problem) and
use that to search with and come up with the answer. Sometimes they neglect
to reveal some critical part (like - if you notice - I put "Windows XP" in
each of my suggested searches above? That's because that is a constant that
is important. Think about it. You don't take your car to the shop and
refuse to tell the people working on it the make/model of the vehicle. ;-) )
Once you learn to use some of the more advanced features of Google - you can
optimize your searches. The first link I gave you is a great start. For
example - just matching my name with the KB number above:
http://www.google.com/search?&as_q=9...Shenan+Stanley
~1100 hits. I'd say that solution has been posted a few times. ;-)
