One way sound issue with webcam

Attempting to use a video call in Windows Live Messenger. Can see webcam in
both directions. Audio is heard in one direction only. Using a logitech
quickcam pro 5000 on both sides. One side XP, other Vista home premium.
Sound from vista side can be heard. Sound from XP side is not.

On the XP side both video and sound are recorded using quickcam software.
Live messenger audio wizard is successful as well.
