I was wondering if it's possible to share a folder on our server (located in
a datacenter) en connect my desktopcomputers with that share over the
internet? I would like to be conneced from any location. Can this be done,
or does it put to much pressur on our DSL connection? Can it be fast enough?
What would be a good method?

Hi Tim,

too many questions and too many factors which can influence this scenario
:-)

Generally if you want to share data from your datacenter you need to
identify a protocol / application like FTP which can handle remote file
access in a secure way. BUT i would not share your company data "plain"
without any additional security instances like an firewall, NAP, VPN, FTP...
FTP ist here not really the securest one :-( If you're using Windows 2008 R2
and Win7 clients you could have a look at Direct Access which is really a
genius solution for remote access scenario and built in ! For your clients
the access can be realized seamlessly via IPv6 protocol and tunnels.

The performance depends mostly on the internet bandwith from datacenter and
clients internet connection, also the latency is a huge factor for file
access.

my opinion would be to use DA if possible or VPN for offering your data to
the internet :-)

Regards
Ramazan
