only able to sync if use serial usb

I'm using a Palm Treo 700wx with WM5 and ActiveSync 4.5.5096 and running a XP
Pro setup.

ActiveSync suddenly stopped working- it would time out and tell me that 'no
partnership' was found and unable to connect 65257 was the reference code.
After trying everything I could try/read about/etc. I noticed in the program
section on the phone, there was something called USB Switch. I had never even
thoght about it; but figured I had nothing to lose- so I clicked on it- it
immediately told me it had switched me to Serial USB from RNDIS USB. I had
expected an option- but it just switches back and forth.

I tried synching and immediately the Treo connected and ActiveSync created a
new profile (for lack of a better word) called Windows PC 3 and said it was
authorized- it all was very fast.

However- it still showed Windows PC2- the original profile and only by
unchecking the e-mail option on that would it synch the e-mail on PC 3.

My questions are:
-Am I correct that ActiveSync now thinks there are 2 computers it is synching?

-Is it okay to delete Windows PC 2 and just keep PC 3?

-Why/what is Serial USB and why did that work?

Hi,
The serial USB sync is more stable for most users because of the way it
integrates into TCP/IP. This is exactly why Microsoft and OEMs offer this
feature.

As for the names of the profile, yes, you can delete profiles that are no
longer used. However the name of the device and it's profile need to be the
same on each desktop.
