Only IE works

After the installation of SP2 only IE makes a connection to the internet.
When I install another browser it doesn't work.

Windows media player doesn't get an internet connection. Even the virus
update doesn't get a connection.
Can someone get me in the right direction to get these programs working again.

Control Panel/security center>firewall settings and
permissions. Use the built-in help
