Only use one account to send emails

I have 4 different email accounts set up on Windows Live Mail
(14.0.8089.0726) on my Vista system.

Whenever I want to send a new email it selects the SMTP server of the
account I last looked at.

I would like WLM to only select my hotmail account to send emails regardless
of which account was last selected.

I know on the right hand side of the compose window is a drop down list
where I can select which account to use but invariably I forget to select my
hotmail account and so the new email goes out from the wrong account.

I tried removing the SMTP settings from the other accounts but WLM won't
allow it.

In the Thunderbird email client there is the add-on called Correct Identity
to perform this function.

Is there a setting that can be changed on WLM to do likewise ?

You can set a Default mail account at Tools, Accounts, Mail, but that
only applies to new messages when the WLM focus in the folder list is
Not on any mail account. Replies and forwards always use the account
the downloaded the original message. And new messages will use the mail
account with focus, if any.

If the other 3 accounts are POP3 or IMAP and you Never want to send via
those mail services, one option would be to put the Hotmail SMTP
settings in those accounts.

Hotmail and MSN Accounts POP3/SMTP Access

A few notes:
- You'll need to use the Settings button in Servers, Outgoing Mail
Server requires authentication since the incoming server is not your
Hotmail account for those accounts.
- On the General tab put your Hotmail address. The information there
is used to create the From header.

If you want always to use the Hotmail SMTP server to send, try specifying
that on the Properties > Server tab of each account. The Outgoing server
will be smtp.live.com, you should select 'My server requires
authentication' and complete the Settings with your Hotmail address and
password. On the Advanced tab, put 587 for the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server
and select 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)'.

I'm not guaranteeing that this will work, because Hotmail moves in a
mysterious way, but it's worth trying.

I made the suggested changes to the general and server tabs and it worked
like a charm ... many thanks Michael and Ildhund for taking the time to
respond
