Open Programs won't fill screen after removing Google Desktop

I'm not very computer literate and would really appreciate a "quick, easy
fix" to the following problem: All of my programs open in a reduced size
(smaller than the screen) since I installed Google Desktop with the
information bar on the side. After unistalling the Google program (because
it kept getting hung up with all the security software running), there is now
a two inch strip on the right side of all my programs in which I see the
desktop. Nothing I click on seems to help the situation. Saw an article in
Windows XP's help that talked about writing something into what appeared to
be a register, but that kind of stuff is way beyond me! Can anyone suggest
how I can change the way my computer opens up programs so that it will fill
the screen again? Your help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Might be better posting to WinXP General Newsgroup as this Newsgroup tries to deal with
Windows Update issues.

Hope you get your problem solved easily.

Thanks TaurArian. Amazingly, I just figured out an easy way tto fix it
myself! (Can't believe it!)

Just FYI for anyone out there who may experience the same problem: What I
did was, I downloaded the Google Desktop again and let it load onto the
computer, hoping to try and remove it again with better luck. Then after
downloading, I received a prompt that said "Google needed to finish
uninstalling the old program before installing the new one, and then restart
the computer." (Apparently, the problem was, the original Google Desktop
wasn't completely removed, possibly because it kept getting hung up and
crashing.) So, I let Google remove the rest of their original program by
running the Desktop installation again, but when it was time to restart the
computer and install the new one, I chose not to install Google.

Ultimately, this seemed to remove what was causing programs to open smaller
than the screen size without reinstalling Google, which really slowed down my
computer and caused it to crash (due to many other programs, like AOL
Security, launching during startup).
