Open Source Nightmare

Be aware of the potential problems:

a.. Lack of Formal Technical Support. Although open source communities are
normally helpful, most software lacks formal technical support. Fees may be
charged for training and tutorials. Don't complain, take action. You're part
of the solution. It's important to share your concerns, ideas, and solutions
with other users and developers through forums. Use software discussion
forums to search for answers to problems, error messages, and issues.
b.. Disappearing Apps. Once the development community is gone, support and
upgrades are lost.
c.. Lack of Features/Standards. Not all packages meet specific,
specialized needs.
d.. Lack of Packaging. Software lacks traditional packaging and hard copy
support.
e.. User-Friendly Limits. Some software requires more learn time or skills
to use and maintain than traditional software.
f.. Compatibility. Most open source supports open source file types, but
may not support proprietary file types. Open File Formats
a.. HTML - web pages
b.. PDF - portable document format
c.. RTF - formatted text
d.. TXT - plain text
e.. PNG - graphics
f.. MNG - movies, based on PNG
g.. OGG - container format

Linux is a complete joke, a farce that attempts to act like commercial
quality software but fails at just about every attempt.
Hell, Linux isn't even compatible with itself.
Can I install and expect them to work deb packages on slackware?
Can I go to Redhat's site and download packages for Gentoo?
What about the different file systems?

Hey, what ever happened to that Linux guru Hans Reiser who murdered
his family?

Too many nights compiling kernels I guess.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Reiser

The problem with the Linux community is that there are just too many
unstable people, like Hans Reiser, floating around.
Ever go to a Linux LUG meeting?
Talk about strange!
These people need to learn how to bathe, and quickly!

Take a look at some real oddities over in comp.os.linux.advocacy for
examples of what type of people get attracted to Linux.

There is one joker over there named Roy Schestowitz who castrated
himself in the name of Linux, or so he says.

Here is google on this joker:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

There is another one, Rex Ballard who is a transvestite who offers
oral sex to people and claims to have invented everything from the
internet to HTML.

I am not kidding.......

Google them....

As for Linux?

It sucks. Why? Because just about everybody else is using Windows and
in order to remain compatible with Windows requires a lot of effort on
the part of the Linux user.

Linux is free, so why are so few people using it as a desktop system?
Hell, Linux hasn't even broken the 1.0 percent mark for desktop
useage.

Something for free that can't be given away says it all.

People would rather PAY for Windows or OSX than use Linux.

What more can be said?

All links and references therein are a case of libel and
fabrication. These were all faked by this one troll (Gary Stewart,
AKA "flatfish"). It's an attempt at character assassination, which is better
off ignored.

Messages you find on the Web with my name (or identities, unless digitally
signed in a verifiable fashion) can be fake.

In fact, the poster of the previous message is in desperate need for
psychiatric attention.

Many thanks,

Roy

Also applies to commercial software. I know plenty of software that sells
in the triple digits and doesn't even come with a printed manual! Wanna
know how to use it? Plenty great training and tutorials available....for
purchase...for additional cost.

> b.. Disappearing Apps. Once the development community is gone, support and

Also applies to commercial software. Companies get bought up, existing
products are replaced with new ones and support for old ones ceases,
companies go bankrupt, etc. In any event, support and upgrades etc. are
lost as well.

> c.. Lack of Features/Standards. Not all packages meet specific,

Also applies to commercial software. Not all software has all features nor
does all software meet all (if any) standards.

I have a whole host of commercial software that also lacks traditional
packaging and hard copy support...your point?

Again the same applies to commercial software. I've seen plenty of
commercial software ranging from a wonderful experience to use to a
complete nightmare. Price didn't necessarily have any relevance.

Neither is most commercial software compatible with other commercial
software's proprietary file formats. That's the point and problem of
proprietary and undocumented file formats after all. Vendor lock-in.

Glad to hear you didn't cut your own balls off.
These things are best handled by professionals.

Anyhow, you are obviously a complete nutcase though.
Why?
What kind of a fool spends 24 hours a day posting tens of thousands of
messages a month to Linux groups?

Unless maybe you are being paid?

Now there is a thought.

The racist, liar and software thief Gary Stewart (flatfish) nymshifted:

Give it a rest, flatfish.

You are fooling noone with your constant nymshifting

At this point, just go ahead and get a Mac.

Why you have to deal with these sorts of issues isn't needed in the
modern age, so sell it (if anyone will buy it) and get a Macintosh.

http://www.apple.com/mac/

Putting your life on hold while you wrestle with a PC doesn't make sense.

Microsoft basically died 5 years ago, so this note is to let you know
where the future is heading.

That so many people are so brainwashed and brain dead that they not only
refuse to think for themselves but are, when everything is said and done,
totally enamored with the concept of a monetary system where one has to pay
for everything - and pay in more ways than one at a huge price. The loss is
theirs. But it is also a loss encountered by others, in that the system of
limitation derived from irrationality as it abides in human thought and
feeling
is imposed by those without vision.

Either live inside or outside of the square, so to speak. The generality of
people are of the former category, while those composing the latter are few
indeed. The former are sheep and the latter are the real movers in being the
shepherd. This analogy is most fitting and aptly describes the real
situation, as opposed to the incorrectly assumed from holding to an agenda
nonsense presented as the reason for things as they are or may appear to the
preconceptions of the viewer or onlooker.

It really is that simple. However, as seemingly with everything in this
world, sad to say simpletons rule. This imparts a new meaning to the phrase
originating from the movie classic "The Day the Earth Stood Still." Because
as surely as life exists, the Earth does to an enourmous extent stand still
in
the wake and perpetual onslaught of the limiting factor of human thinking
and
the concepts of which originate therein. Such merely compounds the
problems encountered in life by the human species. The downward spiral of
the simpleton consciousness approach to life surely does make the Earth
stand still. Thusly do the simpletons take their irrational and limiting
stand to
become the unmovers in the mental world as in the world of form.

If an idiot you acknowledge yourself as, then an idiot you'll be.

And the point is.....?

Most of the FUD that you are posting it WAY more prevalent in commerical
world than in the open source world.

a: MS Tech Support is not free either. And not in English.

b: Try opening a Works for DOS 3.0 file in ANY application.

c: Open source apps do a much better job of meeting standards because
they have to. In most cases the developer is writing an app to against
a spec. Not to attract flaming trolls, but most commercial software
will sell you 2 slice of bread, but to make a sandwich the mayo and
bologna is extra.

d: Why does this matter?

e: Too Vague, please elaborate.

f: See b:
