Have you installed (inadvertently or otherwise)
the Yahoo Companion toolbar? If so, remove it.
Make sure also that
Reuse windows for launching shortcuts
(Options, Advanced tab, Browser section)
is *unchecked*.
BTW this question is off-topic for this newsgroup.
It would have been more appropriately asked in an IE6 newsgroup
or in a General Discussion newsgroup for your OS.
