opening Microsoft Word attachments

Is there a way to open Microsoft Word attachments to emails when my computer
uses Windows XP?

Hi Rene, for those who do not have office components installed there are
viewers available. You'll need the Word Viewer.

sure, buy MS word! no, you can't just download it as it is a
commercial program unless you're into illegal broken code from
warez or someplace.

Do not delete the installation file after Word Viewer is installed, Rene.
In fact, after you download it, move it to the My Documents folder.
Then install it from there by clicking Start > Run > click the Browse
button, then click the My Documents icon in the left frame.
Click once on the downloaded file, then click Open.
Now click OK

That way, when there are subsequent Security updates for it, they will
install.
If the installation file is not present, then said Sec updates will fail
to install with just a generic error message.
