Opening Word Documents in Works 8.5

I am trying to open Word documents in Works 8.5. When I first ha
difficuties I installed the Works Translator for Office Formats off th
Microsoft site. I then can open them successfully when I have th
specific application open e.g. Word Processing

When I try to open a document from Windows Explorer I get the sam
error I had before, that the file may be corrupted etc. My assumptio
was that it was a Works patch and I am wondering if this is how it i
supposed to work. I would assume that Works would be smart enough t
send a .doc file to the Word Processing application after installing th
Translator.

Has anyone had this experience? Am I stuck or can it be corrected

Thanks in advance

Georg

It may be the new docx format from Office 2007 and you may need additional
add-ons for that.

I don't think that is the problem. The documents all date for 1999 to
2005.

Thanks

George

I suspect you'd find it a lot simpler to simply install OpenOffice.org.
It's a free highly compatible office suite - reads and writes MS office
files and also industry standards.

No, they are not. They are proprietary abominations. RTF is an industry
standard and, to a lesser extent, PDF.
