HOW CAN I OPEN WINDOWS 98 SPREADSHEET FILES USING VISTA?

I WAS TOLD TO PURCHASE MICROSOFTWORKS 8.5.
IS THIS THE ONLY OPTION?

You have to use the same program to view files as the one which generated
them. Yes, you will have to purchase MS Works. It is fairly cheap to buy..

You might also want to get the Caps Lock key fixed too..

Yes, that is the only option. In order to open files, you need to have
installed either the program in which the file was created or another
program that can read/open files in that format. Works has always used a
proprietary format that nothing else can read. Presumably the current
version of Works - which you would need to buy at your favorite
meatspace or online store - will be able to open files created in an
older version of Works.

The only other possibility is if you still have the Win98 box running
with Works installed and if Works will let you save those spreadsheets
in a more transferable format such as .csv. You will still need a
program installed on the Vista machine that can open the .csv files such
as MS Excel or OpenOffice Calc.

You can download a free Word viewer from Microsoft which also opens Works
files. You can view and print, but not edit.
