Optical mouse problems

My optical mouse (Genius Netscroll 100 USB) keeps cutting out. It
recovers when unplugged and plugged in again. I am therefore assuming
this is a software problem. I have downloaded the latest driver.
Prior to that I used the Vista default driver and same thing happened.

Any ideas or is this just a case of wait and see with SP1 when it is
eventually released?
