Options on Active Sync 4.1.0

prior to initiating the device (hp iPAQ) to the pc, I go to "options" under
"Tools", but it always appears in light grey colour, ( ie inoperative). So
when the syncronisation process commences, the data exchange will move in
line with a prior setting, which is not always the direction desired.
"Options" only goes live, as indicated by the text changing font colour to
dark black ( from light gray), after the completion of an uncontrolled
syncronisation. This just doesn't seem logical!

I seem to recall past versions of Active Sync when "options" could be opened
on a stand alone basis (prior to establishing a link) to facilitate a change
in the settings so that the desired flow could be set up in Active Sync
before the sync process commences.

I've removed Active Sync several times from my pc, I've reloaded Active Sync
back to the same pc , I've switched McAfee's firwall to "off" & "on", I've
switched the interenet connection "off" & 'on'. I've seem to have exhausted
my ability to sort out this problem!

Would be grateful for advice on how to control this troublesome program.

Hi,
This is the way ActiveSync is designed to work on the desktop. ActiveSync
does not allow the user to change the settings until the sync is complete.

A workaround is to delete the partnership and then when you set it up again,
you can change the settings before you sync.

Chris,

I kow that this was not your choice, but has anyone at Microsoft ever
given any rationale for this and some of the other odd changes in AS
4? (Such as no Contacts selection, no New menu, etc.)
