order of posts in newsgroups

I'm new to windows live mail (not happy with it yet).
While viewing newsgroups, I can't seem to get the order I had in OE.
I conversations connected-- got that.
Expand threads - got it.
I want the the newest -thread- on top, I can do ascending/descending.
But I want them ordered by the date the tread starts.
The problem: A two week old thread gets a new post then that thread goes to
the top.
I want there starting date to stay in order.
I suspect there is just one more click I need to make but I can't find
it.

I could ~not~ find a solution to the same problem in WLM but I also
found that WLM would not correctly quote messages 'replied to' in
newsgroups, try it .. it's rubbish. I now use Mozilla Thunderbird for
newsgroups, but I'll hang on to WLM for email, for now anyway.

Hmm.... so it's not just me!
I'm about to go to Thunderbird, but I'll probably use it for my mail too.
Thanks, Mikek

View >> Sort by

Now make sure the DATE and SORT Descending are selected.

Nothing else is to be selected.

Ok, I'm in "View" I click on "Sort Order" and click "Descending".
What's this about DATE?

A good example is in >sci.electronics.design< it has a Ron Paul thread that
started on 4-29-11
every time someone adds to the thread it jumps back to the top, it's 22
screens down to get to the next thread.
I think it's a flaw in WLM.

What you don't have Date item on your View menu item like in this picture:

<https://picasaweb.google.com/xfsgpr/Jun10201102?authkey=Gv1sRgCNTI3J_Uu_nM6wE#slidesho w/5616403444086340914>

In the picture, the first item is DATE (you can just about see it).
This works fine in WLM version 14 (2009) on Windows XP.

Hi, Mikek.

In WLM 2011 (aka Build 15.*, aka Wave 4) they changed the listing order - as
you saw. Instead of having the latest-started thread at the top (when
sorted in descending order by date Sent), the thread containing the latest
message is at the top. So if someone replies to a year-old thread today,
the OP in that thread will be at the top, with other messages in that thread
below, with sub-threads indented and listed earliest first, as we used to
see them in OE/WM/WLM pre-2011.

It took some getting used to, but now I'm comfy with that arrangement. All
threads with new traffic are at the top of the list, and I don't have to go
looking to see if there are new posts in threads I am following.

I'm using Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3502.0922) must be a change since version
14 (2009).
I don't see what you show in your link.
Thanks, Mikek

Thanks RC, I wish they had put in an option to change that.

Hi, Mikek.

Your version of WLM:
X-Newsreader: Microsoft Windows Live Mail 15.4.3502.922

is one build out of date. You can get the current build (15.4.3508.1109) -
and any other of the Windows Live Essentials that you might want - at:
http://explore.live.com/windows-live...tials?os=other

But the new build still sorts messages the same way. As I said, I didn't
like it at first, but I'm happy with it after getting used to it. Yes, it
would have been nice to have had an option, rather than being forced to
change.
