Ordering 64-bit Discs from 32-bit Purchase

I have noticed that Microsoft are allowing people to order a 64-bit version
of Windows Vista for a 'minimal charge' if they have purchased a retail
version of 32-bit Vista. While ordering, it requests your serial number from
your 32-bit copy. Will putting this number in mean that you are trading
32-bit for 64-bit, or will you be able to use the serial number for both
versions (not simultaneously, just to give the option to switch back and
forth if necessary)? Can anybody shed any light on this?

You can only use the Windows Vista product key with one installation.
If you install the 64-bit version of Vista, then you can no longer use
the 32-bit version.

Yes, you can switch back and forth between the two, provided only one is
installed at the time.

So, if I were to use this service to get a 64-bit version of Windows Vista,
install it, uninstall it and re-install Windows Vista 32-bit, I would be able
to use the same product key, as I had deleted the 64-bit isntallation?

Hello SmartRoss

Yes. Your retail Vista 32-bit product key number can be used wit
either the same 32-bit or 64-bit edition (ex: Ultimate). It's just tha
you can only have one instance installed using the same product ke
number
