Some good and interesting choices there. I agreed with pretty much all the
ones I'd heard of - not sure if you'll think thats a compliment or not ;-)

Just wanted to point out the PDF reader - have you looked at foxit reader?
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/ - much more lightweight and in my opinion much
faster and more robust than the Adobe reader.

Happy new year to you too.

Yes I know about foxit and it is also no-install or portable too..
That's what I used before acrobat 8 came out. 7 was unacceptably slow.
BUT I have seen Foxit does not render all pdfs perfectly and it does
not have a thumbnail pane.. nor does it integrate with windows explorer
so that it shows thumbnails in windows explorer. (im not talking about
internet explorer but about windows explorer). Im not saying that foxit is
not good.. its nice...
people should check it out. http://www.foxitsoftware.com/

One small notice though about acrobat 8.. it would be good for someone to
delete the
2 startup shortcuts it creates in the startup folder....
Too many programs what things to startup and it bogs down performance...
It should have had an option to choose if you want this or not.

Can one install Acrobat 8 over the top of 7 or does 7 need to be
uninstalled first?

Thanks,

Im not sure.. I would uninstall the old one first just to be sure

there is a standalone installer for acrobat 8 here (as apposed to the web
installer)
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader...dr80_en_US.exe

That is the English version.

RDC is very good at what it does (and is probably a better choice where it's
suitable) but VNC offers two distinct advantages.

* Multiplatform servers
* multiplatform clients

As robert said, RDP is good.. however if you have XP home for example you
cannot
use it as a server... I use bothe RDP and VNC

BTW there has been an update for the RDP client from 5.2 (latest) to
6.0.2600

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

This is for XP, vista has 6 preinstalled.
