OT: NNTP Bridge - I don't like it at all

Well, I setup and configured the Bridge and have it working with my
trusty Gravity News Reader, but, now I have to switch between Usenet
servers to read the groups I normally read - since only half of the
groups are about MS products... The threading looks fine, there are some
posts with HTML embedded in them, but the text option in the community
bridge eliminates most of that.

This is a giant step backwards for MS.

That's what I'm using, didn't even consider the MS bridge.

The real issue is not being able to configure all the groups I read in
one setup - since the MS groups only contain the MS groups, since my
public Usenet server contains both the old groups (no longer supported
by MS, but will remain active in the rest of the world) and groups not
related to anything MS, it means that I have to maintain two different
Usenet configurations and that means double the effort.

If I understand it properly, I can not access the MSDN and TECHNET
groups through the bridge at the same time, only one or the other at any
given instant.

Leythos:

Verizon has discontinued providing newsgroup access, but I would like to
see what you are seeing, so can you suggest a source for getting access to
public newsgroups?

I pay Astraweb for a unlimited connection per month, $10/month, and use
them because they actually pay attention to abuse complaints, provide
anonymous posting access, and they have all the groups I could imagine
and some that I would never want to see in my life :-)

http://astraweb.com/

They have a standard connection that includes a little spam in each
post, but they will give you details on which server to use to skip the
little spam, so your messages are clean.

You can access both MSDN and Technet at the same time.(At least I can?)

I'm using however Windows Live Mail for my nntp reader however?
(with the community connector.)

???

It works?

Nope. I have technet/partner/msdn all in the same "MSforum" account.

Mind you you will have to have "true usenet" and "Msforum" accounts, but
hey... sometimes we have to roll with the flow.

Well, I've used the bridge to the new forum based groups and find that
the forums are slow, lacking in post counts, and sometimes they don't
thread properly.

If MS wanted to really serve its customers they would maintain Usenet.

Using Omea Reader and the community bridge, I have no such issues. Faster
than a speeding bullet. Able to leap over tall buildings in a single bound.
But since I have no experience with the usenet of modern times, I may be
comparing fighter jets to rocket ships, where neither would seem slow to me.

Face it Leythos we're of the older generation. The new generation HATES
nntp as much as we hate the web forums.

Microsoft is trying to serve it's customers... if it didn't move to web
forums I'd be stuck answering questions on facebook. Gawd is that painful.

The dude who worked on the community bridge is working on the issues.

He's got one with a local database limited for access, let me check with
him and see if you can give that one a run.
